Biography of Ryan Hall
E. Ryan Hall serves as Senior Associate General Counsel at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Ryan’s practice areas center on Labor and Employment matters including discipline, contract negotiations, Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs), and labor arbitrations. In addition to these duties, Ryan also handles public safety issues and legal compliance, faculty issues, forcible entry and detainer matters, and some general litigation. Finally, Ryan serves as legal counsel for the Head Start Advisory Board.
Prior to coming to the University, Ryan worked as a staff attorney for the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council and labor counsel for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Ryan has worked on both sides of the labor and employment field, serving as advocate for employees and also the employer, giving him a unique perspective in contract negotiations, ULPs, and discipline matters. Ryan has also served his community as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Williamson County Illinois for almost eight years, trying cases and seeking convictions on offenders ranging from traffic tickets to murder. Ryan has also served as a Trustee to the Lake Egypt Water and Sewer District Board, Auxiliary Sheriff’s Deputy, and as a Capitol Hill intern in the United States Senate.
Ryan is a graduate of Illinois State University, with a B.S. in Political Science and History. He earned his Juris Doctor at Southern Illinois University School of Law. Ryan is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Illinois Bar Association. With his free time, Ryan enjoys the outdoors, Chicago Bears football, Saluki athletics, and reading.
